Which type of wood is best for a wood floor?

Most species of timber are suitable for wood flooring however some species are more durable because of their hardness.

Should I choose solid or engineered for my wood floor?

This depends on many factors. Engineered boards are suitable for underfloor heating whereas in many cases solid wood flooring is not, however we can supply solid wood flooring that is suitable for underfloor heating. Solid wood floors have been around for generations and are arguably more in keeping with the essence of owning a wood floor.

Which is better oil or lacquer?

There is no definite answer to this question. The range of oils and lacquers we use and once applied will enhance the beauty of the floor equally. Personal choice on aesthetics has a part to play but equally important is suitability. During our design and survey we will have taken into account all the factors and would advise on which type of floor finish is best suited to its environment.

Can we choose the type of finish during the installation?

It is normally best to have all the specifications detailed before the installation or renovation takes place. We have many different panels with the different finishes available to view but ultimately we can apply swatches on the floor during the installation if needed.

The wood flooring needs to be acclimatised is this correct?

In some cases yes.Solid wood flooring generally needs to acclimate to the conditions of the room that it is intended for. This can be 1-4 weeks if the conditions are amenable.Engineered wood flooring does not need to be acclimatised however the room conditions need to be at optimum levels.

When you sand the floor will it be dusty?

No. Heritage Wood Floors utilise a dust containment system on all our sanding machines. The dust is collected in sealed bags rendering it impossible for the dust to escape.

What makes Heritage Wood Floors different from other companies?

We only fit wood floors unlike most other flooring companies. We don't employ contractors and each project is surveyed and directed by the owner. Attention to detail and the way the work is carried out is vitally important to us.

What happens if my wood floor fails?

This is highly unlikely as each project is surveyed, documented and a method statement is created which has to be approved by the designer and the fitter.In the very unlikely chance that this did happen we would investigate immediately by analysing the floors problems and if necessary call in an independent expert in wood flooring to ascertain the causes of the problem.

Your wood floors are more expensive than others. What's the difference?

With every project we supply our clients with a floor maintenance kit and cleaning products with a data sheet on how to look after your floor.

Can you supply floor protection for the wood floor once it has been fitted to protect it from other tradesmen?

We can supply adequate floor protection for the floor either during or after it has been fitted.

Will high heels dent my floor?

There isn't a wood floor covering that is impervious to high heels. It also depends on the size of the heel and the wearer. All wood floors will gain the marks that their owners embue upon them which in itself is part of the charm of owning a wood floor.

How often will my wood floor need to be refinished?

This depends on what type and the level of foot fall it is exposed to.In residential settings and under normal use an oiled floor may need re oiling every 3-5 years and a lacquered floor every 5-10 years.

Can we have a solid wood floor even though we have underfloor heating?

Yes. As long as the underfloor heating system is correctly regulated and fully commissioned then we can supply and fit several types of solid wood floor that are guaranteed to be fitted directly onto subfloors with underfloor heating.
